BASED ON PRO-I MONITORING

THERE are no Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO) in the entire Ilocos Region, according to P/Brig. Gen. Lou Evangelista, Philippine National Police-Regional Office 1 (PRO1) director.

Speaking at a forum held last week at the at the PRO1 in La Union, he said his office immediately conducted monitoring operations following a recent order from the national headquarters to locate POGO sites nationwide in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to stop all POGOs by the end of the year.

“And true enough, wala naman talagang POGO na nangyayari dito ,” he said, while acknowledging that some political personalities from Pangasinan have been mentioned in the congressional hearings on the controversial gaming operations.

He added that as soon as they learned about suspended Bamban City Mayor Alice Guo’s alleged link with a politician in Pangasinan, they immediately started monitoring in the area mentioned.

With the help of the municipality concerned, the police were informed of two small idle lots reportedly owned by Guo.

On the online scam operations discovered in Alaminos City last month where the operator reportedly locked up some employees, Evangelista said a case was already filed against the reported Chinese operator. (Eva Visperas)
