Fishermen find 900 grams of shabu floating in WPS
COASTAL WATCH IN PANGASINAN INTENSIFIED
SOME 900 grams of shabu, placed inside aqua blue plastic pack marked “Cal Yun Li” in Chinese characters were found floating in the water by fishermen in Agno town who were fishing in the West Philippine Sea last week.
The Police Regional Office 1 said the contraband, with an inner plastic pack marked “A168”, was fished out some 25 nautical miles from the shores of Barangay Olanen, Bani town by the fishermen.
The group landed in Sitio Abagatanen in Barangay Macaboboni, Agno at 5:00 p.m. on July 6 and turned over the contraband to barangay officials Kagawad Antonio Corpuz and Caroline Manzano who in turn reported the matter to the Agno police led by P/Capt. Rose Brian Marmeto.
The Pangasinan Police reportedly submitted a specimen of the contraband goods to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) at Camp Diego in La Union for validation as methamphetamine hydrochloride.
The contraband had a net weight of 900.52 grams and was soaked in a liquid substance with a net volume of 250 milliliters. It had a Dangerous Drugs Board value of P6,123,537.
The floating shabu pack was believed to be part of a huge volume of shabu that were earlier found in the waters near Ilocos Sur, but dropped by an unidentified foreign ship, for retrieval by still unidentified contacts of a syndicate on land.
P/Brig. General Lou Evangelista, police region 1 director, commended the Agno fisherman who discovered the floating shabu for his vigilance and swift action.
A week earlier, P/Colonel Jeff Fanged, police provincial director, ordered intensified coastal watch and beach patrols after the discovery in Ilocos Sur. (Leonardo Micua)
