“Dangerous Heat Level” in Dagupan City continues
10 A.M. TO 3 P.M. SUN EXPOSURE NOT SAFE
NOWADAYS, it’s not just about bangus that Dagupan City is known for but for its continuously reaching dangerous levels of heat indices in the past days.
According to PAGASA, Dagupan City continuously reached high heat index levels since Saturday, April 6, ranging from 43 to 44 degrees Celsius, frequently topping the country’s highest heat indices.
Last Monday, April 8, Dagupan City’s heat index was at 44 degrees Celsius.
Gener Quitlong, weather specialist from PAGASA, says the high heat index is a factor of the maximum temperature, and humidity in the area.
The coastal city is also overlaid with concrete – from its numerous buildings and houses, even to roads, making the heat reflect back, resulting in high heat indices.
“Hindi na ina-absorb ng lupa at ng mga halaman yung init dahil yun sa mga concrete, tumatalbog na lang yung init, kaya mataas ang init sa atin”, said Quitlong who warned that the warm dry season is still not in its peak.
“Maaari pang umakyat ang heat index natin sa mga susunod habang papalapit tayo sa peak ng dry season,” he said.
He warned the public that cramps and heat exhaustion are likely,” and “heat stroke is probable with continued activity.” (Ahikam Pasion)
