P4-M WORTH SEIZED, 2 MINORS NABBED

JOINT anti-narcotics and police operatives eradicated almost P4-million worth of ready-to-harvest marijuana in a plantation in Barangay Mapita, Aguilar town on March 26 and arrested two minors cultivating the plants.

In a report, the pieces of drug evidence were seized in three areas with a total combined amount of P3,850,0000. The arrested male suspects were aged 15 and 17 while one is at-large.

Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (Pangasinan) Provincial Officer Rechie Camacho, in an iFM interview on Wednesday said “this is an uncommon operation in Pangasinan… an eradication of marijuana plantation in this barangay in Aguilar”.

PDEA’s follow-up operation made on the same day in Urdaneta resulted in the seizure of 10 kilos. The two farms are connected with each other,  and the arrested suspects are known to each other, Camacho  said.

“Yes, honestly and sad to say, this is alarming really that this is already the second (operation) but the volume we uprooted last night with the PNP is big, so it’s alarming,” he said.

Law enforcement agencies in La Union and Cordillera Administrative Region are intensifying their marijuana eradication operations “so that could be one reason we see them coming to Pangasinan but we will not let them here”.

Meanwhile, Camacho said the arrested minors are detained in Aguilar Police Station for proper disposition and will likely be turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development. The minors are not from the area, he said

Deeper probe is ongoing to determine who leased the areas to be converted into marijuana plantation.   (Eva Visperas)
