TO SECURE BARANGAY, SK ELECTIONS

AS the date for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) draws near, the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) has intensified its monitoring of operations of suspected guns-for-hire and private armed groups in the province.

In an interview Wednesday, March 15, P/Colonel Jeff Fanged, provincial police director, said search and arrest operations to seize illegal firearms are ongoing in accordance on orders of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

He said all threats to politicians are closely assessed to assure their security, this, after several high-profile politicians were ambushed and killed early this year.

Meanwhile, Fanged said there are no listed PAGs in the province, save for two identified criminal gangs and criminal groups.

“Identified na natin ito, pero sisikapin natin na hindi magamit ang mga ito for the BSKE”, he said and confirmed that some members of the identified groups have been issued warrants of arrest and have been neutralized while some are already behind bars. “Others are in hiding, while others died while fighting arresting officers,” he added.

Fanged revealed that some guns-for-hire groups are being hired from other places for liquidation missions.  “Sadly, some of these are dismissed police and army personnel,” he said.

He further warned politicians against using criminal and gun-for-hire groups this coming elections because they will be made liable if evidence and statements lead to them.

Papapanagutin natin ang mga ito at sa mga grupo, hahanapin at huhulihin sila saan mang lupalop magtago”, said Fanged. (Ahikam Pasion)
