P15K PENALTY PLUS IMPOUNDING OF UNITS

THE regional office of the Land Transportation Franchise and Regulatory Board confirmed that only 1,500 public utility vehicles in Region I secured copies of the updated fare matrix that give them authority to implement the fare hike starting October 3.

According to Atty. Anabel Nullar, Chief Transportation Development Officer of the LTFRB Region 1, the number represented only 23.74 percent of 6,000 total number of PUVs in the region.

Of the 1,500 PUVs, 1368 are public utility jeepneys (PUJs), 75 are taxis, and 96 are buses.

Nullar urged the operators and drivers to secure their copies of the fare matrix so they can implement the fare increases.

She warned that PUV’s that collect the new fares without the authorization that the fare matrix grants, violators will be charged P15,000 if caught by authorities. Apprehended PUVs will also be impounded.

Kailangan po ang fare matrix, hindi po sila maaaring makasingil ng updated na pamasahe kapag wala po sila nito”, she said.

Nullar said operators should go to the LTFRB Regional Office in San Fernando City, La Union, and provide a copy of their current OR/CR, franchise verification, copy of provisional authority or decision, and official receipt of payment of fare increase fee. (Ahikam Pasion)
