30 TOWNS/CITIES DECLARED COVID-FREE

THIRTY towns and cities in the province have been declared COVID-19 free as Pangasinan registered only one active COVID-19 case, a first since the COVID-19 pandemic was declared on March 16, 2020.

On the same day, the Pangasinan Health Office registered five recoveries and zero death.

Health officials believe that is a strong indication COVID-19 contagion in Pangasinan’s 48 towns and cities that the contagion has waned in the province.

Over the period December 9 to 16, the number of active cases dropped to 31, from 42 cases a week earlier after 57 patients recovered while only 53 new cases and seven deaths reported.

The few active cases were in Bani (5), Mapandan (5), Malasiqui (3), Calasiao, Mangaldan and San Carlos City (2 cases each), while one case each in Anda, Bautista, Bayambang, Bugallon, Lingayen, Manaoag, Natividad, Rosales, San Fabian, San Quintin, Umingan and Urdaneta City.

Declared COVID-19 free were Agno, Aguilar, Alaminos City, Alcala, Asingan, Balungao, Basista, Binalonan, Binmaley, Bolinao, Burgos, Dagupan City, Dasol, Infanta, Labrador, Laoac, Mabini, Mangatarem, Pozorrubio, San Jacinto, San Manuel, San Nicolas, Sison, Sta. Barbara, Sta. Maria, Urbiztondo and Villasis.

Pangasinan is still under Alert Level 2 classification up to December 31 like the rest in Region 1.

Barring any new cases involving the highly transmittable Omicron variant, Pangasinan may already be qualified to be downgraded to Alert Level 1. (Leonardo Micua)
