CAPITOL URGES VIGILANCE

WHILE one Delta variant has been detected in Ilocos Norte as of last week, and pending results of investigations, there is still no confirmation if a local transmission of the variant has happened in Pangasinan or in any province in the region.

This was affirmed by Dr. Rheuel Bobis, COVID-19 focal person of the Department of Health-Center for Health Development 1 during the weekly Virtual Presser of the Philippine Information Agency 1 last Tuesday, July 27.

Bobis said the first to third generation close contacts of the carrier of the Delta variant  have been traced and isolated while the carrier of the variant is confined in a still undisclosed hospital in Ilocos Norte.

He said no information is available on how the carrier of the Delta variant managed to enter the region and whether the carrier is a male or female or if the same is a Returning Overseas Filipino (ROF) or an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) till the investigation is completed.

Meanwhile, Bobis said his office continues to coordinate with all the local governments on strict implementation of border control protocols and with public and private hospitals in the region on the need to increase their number of their dedicated Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds and mild cases in case of a surge of COVID-19 cases.

So far, the bed capacity of all public and private hospitals in the region has already increased by 27 percent.

Meanwhile, Bobis said the region already reached a milestone when more than 500,000 vaccine doses were inoculated on persons in Pangasinan, La Union, Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte and Dagupan City. As of July 17, 514,502 doses of the vaccine were already administered: 358,587 as first dose and 154,600 as second dose.

Fully vaccinated are 13% of A-1 (front line health workers);10% of Group A-2 (senior citizens), and 1% of A-4 (essential workers sector),

Bobis reminded all eligible population to seek vaccination because if one is hit by any COVID-19 but are asymptomatic or experiencing only mild symptoms will not require hospitalization but simply home care while those with severe and critical symptoms will need to be admitted in hospitals.
