73 towns, cities in Region 1 tagged as “critical risk” areas
FROM HIGH RISKS TO CRITICAL RISKS
FIFTY-four towns and cities in Region 1 earlier classified as high risk areas were elevated to critical risk areas status after 19 more high risk areas for COVID-19 were added based on an advisory dated August 3, 2021 issued by Regional Director Valeriano Lopez of Department of Health-Center for Health Development I.
In his advisory, Lopez clarified that the risk classification of Local Government Units (LGUs) is based on the data of the Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit’s (RESU) evaluation of their respective epidemic risk levels.
Based on the advisory, 11 were added to the July list of high risk areas in Ilocos Norte, three in Ilocos Sur, one in La Union and two in Pangasinan .
Lopez said the recent advisory was issued to guide Provincial and Local Vaccination Operations Centers (P/LVOCs), implementing units and vaccination sites on the rollout of Priority A-4 (members of the essential sectors) in critical risk areas for COVID-19.
In Pangasinan, Infanta and Basista were added to the “high risk areas” in Pangasinan, namely: Bolinao, Labrador, Laoac, Mabini, San Manuel, San Nicolas, and Alaminos, Urdaneta, San Carlos and Dagupan cities. All are now classified as critical areas.
The 11 towns added to the list in Ilocos Norte are Adams, Banna, Carasi, Dingras, Dumalneg, Marcos, Nueva Era, Pagudpod, Paoay San Nicolas, Sarrat and Solsona. The others are Bacarra, Badocx, Bangui, Burgos, Currimao, Piddig, Pinili, Vintar, City of Batac and Laoag City.
Ilocos Norte was earlier classified by the national IATF as a high risk province for COVID-19 where five cases of the highly transmittable Delta variant were detected by the Department of Health.
Meanwhile, classified as critical risk areas in Ilocos Sur are Bantay, Cabugao, Cauayan, Cervantes, Galimuyod, Lidlidda, Magsingal, Nagbikel, Narvacan, Salcedo, San Emilio, San Ildefonso, San Vicente, Santa Catalina, Santa Cruz, Santa Lucia, Santiago, Sto. Domingo, Sugpon, Tagudin, Candon City and Vigan City. Added were Nagbukel, San Vicente and Sugpon.
Ilocos Sur was classified by the national IATF under the General Community Quarantine with heightened restriction.
Meanwhile, the critical risk areas in La Union are Agoo, Aringay, Bacnotan, Bagulin, Balanay, Bangar, Barangay, Burgos, Caba, Luna, City of San Fernando, San Juan, Sto. Tomas, Santol, Sudipen and Tubao. Only Sudipen was added. (Leonardo Micua)
