Re-elected Guv feels ‘relief’, not victory

LINGAYEN—Despite winning by a wide margin of votes against his lone political opponent Alaminos City Mayor Hernani Braganza in the May 13 election, 3rd termer Governor Amado Espino Jr. said he feels more relieved than victorious.

“My feeling is not about being victorious, even winning by over 554,000 votes; my sentiment now is simply feeling a sense of relief… I only feel relieved after everything that happened,” said Espino after the regular Monday flag-raising ceremony at the Provincial Capitol on May 20.

Espino thanked his fellow Pangasinenses for their vote and confidence in him notwithstanding the harassment he was made to suffer during the election period.

The governor urged the people to “restore and renew” their commitment for the continued development of the province as he cited a number of priority projects he said he aims to accomplish in his 3rd and last term.

“Let us start again…Let us feel good again…and we can prevail again,” he said.

Among the projects he listed are the international airport and economic zone in Lingayen.

The governor also asked for prayers for his mother who remains in the hospital after reportedly suffering from emotional stress in December upon hearing the accusations levelled against his son.

Espino is facing corruption charges before the Office of the Ombudsman for alleged involvement in the illegal numbers game jueteng and murder raps for allegedly being one of the masterminds in the killing of a mayor last December.

BETTER SERVICE

Meanwhile, re-elected Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Calimlim Jr. promised a “more fruitful and better service” for the next three years.

“Basta sa Team Espino, Pangasinan ay panalo,” Calimlim said.–Johanne R. Macob
