Two candidates in Mapandan’s BSKE die in separate accidents

TRAGEDY struck Barangay Sta. Maria in Mapandan as a victorious SK Kagawad candidate and an unsuccessful Barangay chairman bet lost their lives in separate incidents after the elections.

Newly elected SK kagawad Anthony De Gracia-Mapanao, 23, died on November 2 in a vehicular incident, while Eduard Mendoza, 53, who lost in his bid, suffered a heart attack, an incident that caused him to fall into the Angalacan River.

Anthony’s father, Antonio Mapanao, said he intends to file charges against two suspects, both 19 years old and also from Manaoag who caused his son’s death.

Police investigation showed that at around 6 p.m. in Barangay Sta. Maria, Anthony’s motorcycle was allegedly bumped from behind by the motorcycle ridden by Eufemiano and Dela Cruz.  All three were rushed to the Mapandan Community Hospital by responding police personnel for treatment of their severe injuries.

Anthony, who was transferred to the Medical Centrum Hospital in Dagupan City, died while undergoing treatment. Eufemiano and Dela Cruz who were moved to the Region 1 Medical Center for further treatment survived.

“They shattered his bright future,” lamented Anthony’s father, who fondly recalled his son’s commitment to pursuing a course in information technology. “I hope justice will prevail,” Mr. Mapanao added in Tagalog.

Meanwhile, the De Gracia and Mapanao families were mourning the loss of Eduard Mendoza, a former military officer, whose lifeless body was found floating in the Angalacan River by a resident o Barangay Baloling , a situation that triggered speculation in social media that he committed suicide.

Dr. Ariel De Vera, the medico-legal officer of Urdaneta City Satellite Forensic Office, conducted an autopsy and determined that Eduard died due to acute myocardial infarction.

Daisy Mendoza, Eduard’s wife, appealed to netizens to stop spreading false information about his death including disturbing images of Eduard’s lifeless body. “Delete the posted photos and issue a public apology, or we may be forced to file legal charges,” Mrs. Mendoza threatened.
