A barangay kagawad seeking the post of chairman in the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) was injured in a shooting incident in Urdaneta City.

The victim, Salvador Tan Garcia, 45, a resident of Barangay Asin East in Malasiqui town, was targeted by unidentified assailants.

Initial police investigation showed Garcia was driving inside the Garcia Village, Barangay Nancayasan in Urdaneta City when he was ambushed by the attackers. The suspects quickly fled the scene after the assault.

Despite sustaining gunshot wounds, Garcia managed to drive to the hospital and is receiving medical treatment as of press time.

The police conducting the investigation are considering the possibility that it may be related to the upcoming BSKE. The police said that they are reviewing CCTV footages as part of their ongoing inquiry. (Ahikam Pasion)
