Known gun-for-hire group leader shot dead

A leader of a gun-for-hire group was shot dead by still unidentified suspects on Tuesday night, May 30.

Victim was identified as Virgilio dela Cruz, resident of Barangay Taloyan, Malasiqui town.

Dela Cruz was riding his scooter along the provincial highway in Barangay Canan Norte of said town when he was attacked.

Witnesses said suspects tailed the victim and shot him several times. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but was declared dead on arrival.

Initial investigation showed one caliber 45 pistol loaded with six live ammunitions and two cellphones were found in the victim’s body.

Investigation is still ongoing to determine the identity and motive of the suspects.

Live-in partners shot while sleeping, 1 dead

A 54-year-old woman died, while her live-in partner was injured after they were shot while sleeping in Tayug town early Wednesday morning, May 31.

Victims Maribel Cerdeñola Hidalgo, and partner Crisente dela Cruz, 54, were sleeping in their house in Sitio Caipilan, Barangay Agno, when still unidentified suspects barged in and shot the couple, then quickly fled.

Hidalgo sustained several injuries in her body, while dela Cruz was shot in his right thigh.

The couple were rushed to the hospital, but Hidalgo was declared dead on arrival. Investigation is still ongoing.

Rider dies in motorcycle-bus collision

A 21-year-old motorcycle rider dies when he crashed into a bus head-on in Mangatarem town on Wednesday, May 31.

Victim Mark Jason Portillano, resident of Barangay Casilagan, was riding at high speed along the secondary road in Barangay Calvo when he made a turn to the highway on the opposite lane, unaware of the oncoming speeding bus being driven by Jeric Dacanay, 46, resident of San Clemente town in Tarlac province, resulting in collision.

Portillano was rushed to the hospital, but died later.

OFW dead in Dagupan road mishap

AN Overseas Filipino Worker died after a road mishap in Dagupan City Tuesday night, May 30.

Victor Casaclang Merina Jr., 30, resident of Libsong East in Lingayen town, was riding his motorcycle along Barangay Tapuac, when he collided with an SUV driven by Abelardo Tiongson, 77, resident of Barangay Malued in Dagupan.

Merina was on the way home, when Tiongson made a sudden left turn to enter a subdivision, which caused them to crash into each other.

Due to strong impact, Merina was thrown away from his motorcycle, and sustained several injuries.

He was rushed to the hospital, but was declared dead on arrival. Tiongson was arrested and detained at the city police station.

Motorist dozes off, crashes head-on to a pick-up

A motorist almost died after he dozed off while driving in San Jacinto town.

According to police investigation, Perfecto Austria, 26, resident of Barangay Embarcadero in Mangaldan town, was traversing the road of Barangay Magsaysay in San Jacinto, when he collided with a pick-up truck driven by Dexter Coquia, 33, resident of Pogo Chico in Dagupan City.

CCTV footage recovered by the police shows that Austria was on the opposite lane when he crashed into the pickup truck head-on.

Austria later admitted he dozed off while driving.

He was rushed to Region I Medical Center, while Coquia was unharmed.
