Two ex-communist militiamen surrender

TWO former members of the “militia ng bayan” of the Sigmaru Unit Command of the Kilusang Larangang Gerilya Caraballo of the New People’s Army (NPA) surrendered to police and military authorities on January 14.

The surrenderers, a couple, were identified as Tomas Cabonitalla, alias “Ka Tomas”, 59; and Felicidad Cabonitalla, alias “Ka Tinay”, 66, both farmers, and residents of Barangay Calanutian in San Nicolas town.

Both were surrendered to the Pangasinan 2nd Mobile Company and of the San Nicolas Police Station by Punong Barangay Ricardo de la Cruz of Barangay Calanutian, San Nicolas,  under Coplan “Calanutian”, with the help of San Nicolas town officials.

Tomas Cabonitalla surrendered one Caliber 38 Smith and Wesson revolver with defaced serial number and four live bullets while Felicidad Cabonitalla surrendered a hand grenade.

The surrender of the couple was effected through the Kasimbayaban program involving the police, church, local government and the community residents.

After their debriefing and swearing of their oath of allegiance to the duly constituted authorities, they were given two sacks of rice and P1,500 each. Both were placed under the care of LGU San Nicolas. (Leonardo Micua)
