A REFORMATION facility for drug offenders called ‘Balay Silangan’ will soon rise in Dagupan following an inspection conducted by Mayor Belen Fernandez last January 12, 2023 located on A.B. Fernandez West, Poblacion Oeste.

The Balay Silangan is seen as an alternative approach to address illegal drug use and help drug offenders or dependents become self-sufficient and law-abiding members of the community.

The establishment of said facility is based on Resolution No. 2 series of 2018 of the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) will implement the national drug control strategy for the national anti-drug campaign program.

The establishment of a Balay Silangan is a requirement for a local government unit to be declared drug-cleared.

The mayor was joined by Dagupan Police Station OIC P/Lt. Col. Vicente Castor Jr., City Engineering OIC Engr. Josephine Corpuz, City Local Government Operations Officer Roma Soriano and City Social Welfare and Development OIC Irene Ferrer.

Meanwhile, Mayor Fernandez lauded the officials of Pogo Grande after the barangay was declared drug-free recently.

The PDEA presented to Barangay Pogo Grande the Certificate of Drug-Cleared Barangay during the Turn-over Ceremony of Drug Cleared Certificate and Resolutions and Awarding of Certificate of Commendation last January 5, 2023 in Urdaneta City.

Fernandez said she expects more city barangays to be declared drug-cleared this year. (Dagupan CIO News)
