DRUG REHAB, REFORMATION CENTER

THE Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) is set to inaugurate the newly-built Balay Silangan Drug Reformation Center (DRC) in Asingan, the fifth DRC in Pangasinan.

PDEA-Pangasinan Officer Rechie Camacho said the DRC in Asingan will open on August 15 when all documentations are expected to be complied with for the town’s declaration as “drug-cleared” town.

Asingan local government, under Mayor Carlos Lopez Jr., provided the funds for the construction of the center.

Once the Balay Silangan opens, it will open its doors to drug surrenderers and reformed users and pushers in Asingan and neighboring towns for rehabilitation and reformation programs.

The community-based rehabilitation program will consist of three phases – in-house rehabilitation, where negative effects of illegal drugs and laws anti-illegal drugs are taught, counseling and consultation are provided by the DSWD, and religious groups will provide moral recovery programs.

“Tutulong din ang TESDA at DTI para makapagbagong-buhay ang mga reformists natin at hindi na bumalik sa maling gawain,” said Camacho.

Camacho said the PDEA requires the establishment of a Balay Silangan in towns before it can be granted a drug-cleared status.

Other Balay Silangan DRCs in the province are in the towns of Sison, Basista, Balungao, and San Carlos City. (Ahikam Pasion)
