THE Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) assured the provincial government that Pangasinan remains generally peaceful despite the consecutive killings of two village officials this week.

In an interview Thursday, PPPO information officer P/Maj. Arturo Melchor Jr said the two killings are isolated cases and Pangasinan has maintained its peace and order situation.

On Saturday, July 3, Eleseo Eslao, 52, chairman of Barangay Talogtog in Laoac town, was shot dead while riding a motorcycle being driven by his son, by still unidentified riding in tandem criminals.

Eslao has plans to run as municipal councilor in the upcoming elections, according to Melchor.

Meanwhile, a village councilman (barangay kagawad) of Barangay Tampac in Aguilar town was also gunned down in broad daylight of Tuesday, July 6, while driving his motorcycle along the national highway of Barangay Pogomboa.

“All angles are being looked into such as the previous activities of the victims whether personal or work-related motives as they are both elected officials,” Melchor said.

Meanwhile, PPPO has recorded a total of 57 shooting incidents from January 1 up to July 5, 2021.

He said 79% percent of the cases have already been resolved with the filing of appropriate charges before the court and arrest of criminal perpetrators. (Jerick Pasiliao)
