THE police have ascertained so far that the motives behind the killings of three barangay officials in Pangasinan this month were not due to politics.

P/Major Arturo Melchor Jr, spokesman of the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office, said the police are set to file charges until next week against the suspects in the gun slay of Barangay Captain Eleseo Eslao, 54, of Talogtog, Laoac, who was gunned down by motorcycle-riding suspects on July 3.

Melchor said while Laoac Police are gathering more evidence against the suspects to ensure an airtight case, he said “it’s safe to say the motive was not politics but personal grudge.”

On the killing of Balococ, Lingayen Barangay Captain Frederick Abalos on July 14, is still under investigation but investigators already have persons of interest and indications show politics was not the motive.

Meanwhile, Melchor said a case was already filed at the Prosecutor’s Office for the murder of Remegio Servanda, 68, of Barangay Tampac, Aguilar on July 6 and investigation shows politics was not a motive for Servanda’s gunslay. (Eva Visperas)
