ANOTHER barangay kapitan was shot dead by hitmen riding in tandem (HRIT).

The victim was identified as Frederick Abalos, incumbent barangay captain of Balococ, Lingayen.

The police immediately formed special investigation task group “Abalos” composed of different units of the police to track down the perpetrators in a bid to arrest them and bring them before the bar of justice.

Lingayen Mayor Leopoldo Bataoil strongly condemned the brutal killing of the barangay chairman.

In a statement, Bataoil extended his condolences to the bereaved family of the victim, Balococ Barangay Captain Frederick Abalos.

Bataoil urged the members of the Lingayen Police Station and other law enforcement units “to investigate thoroughly and to bring to justice people who are responsible of this crime”.

“These riding-in-tandems who spread fear and lawlessness have no place in a peace-loving town like Lingayen,” Bataoil said. “To our chief of police, leave no stone unturned,” he intoned.

The Liga ng Barangay provincial federation headed by ex-officio Board Member Jinky Zaplan of which Barangay Captain Abalos was a member, condemned the slaying and appealed to P/Colonel Ronald Gayo, police provincial director, to arrest the perpetrators and the mastermind.

Abalos was on his way home on board a tricycle with his driver before midnight Thursday when he was shot by unidentified motorcycle-riding suspects.

He was rushed by his driver to Lingayen District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival. The tricycle driver was left unhurt.

Police investigators have yet to establish the motive for the killing. (Leonardo Micua/Eva Visperas)
