THE provincial government, formally launched on March 29 the hotlines for gender-based violence and rape cases in Pangasinan.

The hotline numbers: 09686818964 (SMART) and 09054401267 (GLOBE) – are operating 24/7 and handled by the Pangasinan Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office.

The launching was in accordance with the Provincial Ordinance No. 244-2020 (“An Ordinance Establishing a Gender-Based Violence and Rape Cases Response Mechanism and Protocol in Handling Gender Based Violence and Rape Cases in the Province of Pangasinan”) authored by Board Member Rosary Gracia Perez-Tababa.

“Pwede pong magtext, pwede pong tumawag. Huwag sana silang mag-aalala o matakot. Ang purpose ng hotline na ito ay maprotektahan ang bawat tao, regardless of the gender, against rape and violence,” urged Tababa.

Primary responders for the GBV/Rape hotline are: Philippine National Police, as lead agency; city/municipal social welfare and development offices to facilitate psychological support services of the victims; and provincial health center, in charge of attending to survivors and related cases.

“Hindi tama ang manakit. Hindi lang married couple, even different kinds of partner like girlfriend-boyfriend relationship, live-in relationships or even LGBTQ relationships ay nangyayari iyan,” said Tababa.

Nakaangkla dito lahat ng related ordinances tulad ng Republic Act 9262 o ‘yong Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act, Magna Carta for Women, sexual harassment, ordinance for the Anti-Bastos law and other laws pertaining to protect,” she said. (PIO/PJS)
