Cayetano reiterates P10k assistance per family
TAGUIG Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, reiterated his proposal to provide P10,000 cash assistance per Filipino family, in addition to the benefits granted under the Bayanihan I and II by the government.
Speaking in a fellowship meeting with members of the KBP Pangasinan chapter on Friday, he asked the media to support the “P10K sa bawat Pamilyang Pilipino”, which is also being pushed by his group “Ibalik ang Talagang Serbisyo sa Kongreso” as he lamented the continued inaction of Congress.
Cayetano revealed that the chief goal of the group especially in this time of the pandemic is buhay at kabuhayan (life and economy).
He added that it’s only the poor that need financial help but also many in the middle class who lost their jobs or business is on a standstill, he added.
He said his group is ready to do whatever it can to help Northern Luzon, particularly Pangasinan as he underscored the role of the media to continue to criticize constructively because “there is no democracy if there is no freedom of the press”.
“If you criticize to make the government fall, walang nakikinabang. But if you criticize to make the government more efficient, marami ang makikibang. If you criticize and find fault kung sino ang may kasalanan, it will not do any good,” Cayetano intoned.
When asked what he thinks about the country’s economy, Cayetano admitted it is in bad shape because of the pandemic but there are solutions to improve it.
He said COVID-19 has overtaken government’s programs including the K-12 program, noting that many private schools are ailing and they and their students need subsidy from the government in order to continue studying. (Leonardo Micua)
