VILLASIS RAISES THE ALARM

VILLASIS Mayor Nonato Abrenica of Villasis urges his constituents anew to exercise enhanced vigilance and discipline amid the rising number of active COVID-19 cases in the  town that already lists 12 as of February 22.

As chairman of the Villasis Anti-COVID-19 Task Force, Abrenica revealed that of the 12 active cases recorded, five are considered due to local transmission, which makes the situation more alarming.

The 12 active cases include an asymptomatic 31-year-old woman and an Overseas Filipino Worker from Barangay Bacag; a 79-year-old male Caucasian from Sto. Tomas but currently renting an apartment in Barangay Puelay, also asymptomatic; a 55-year-old woman and her 60-year-old husband and their 36-year-old housemate from Barangay Poblacion Zone 1, all symptomatic;

A 53-year-old woman and former OFW and a 73-year-old man from Barangay Bacag who are both close contacts of another patient; an asymptomatic 73-year-old man from Barangay Piaz confined at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Urdaneta; a 64-year-old woman from Barangay Bacag confined at the Urdaneta District Hospital; a 32-year-old driver from Barangay San Nicolas who is asymptomatic.

Also in the list include a 47-year-old man from Barangay Puelay a close contact of a patient from Barangay Poblacion Zone 1; and a 53-year-old widow and vegetable vendor from Barangay Puelay presently confined at the Eastern Pangasinan District Hospital.

In his post on Facebook, Mayor Abrenica enjoined all residents of Villasis to avoid crowded places like cockpit arenas, enclosed buildings and crowded markets and to refrain from parties and boodle fights to stay safe from COVID-19.

He also reminded residents that only persons from 15 years old to 65 years old are allowed to make essential travels, adding that singing during the wake of a dead is strictly prohibited as the total ban on videokes earlier ordered by President Duterte is still in effect.

To underscore the gravity of the issue, the mayor warned of arrest and prosecution of violators of all safety and health protocols. (Leonardo Micua)
