Pangasinan’s active cases down to 540
PANGASINAN, including the city of Dagupan, remains under MGCQ mainly because its previous all-time high of 734 active cases on January 21 was down to only 540 a week later, with just 270 new confirmed cases. However, the number of patients that recovered reached an all-time high of 453 recorded from January 22 to 28.
This brought the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 3,974 and out of which 3,274 had recovered. Of the total confirmed cases, 2,974 are from 47 towns and cities of Pangasinan while 980 were from Dagupan.
On the other hand, there were nine new deaths recorded in the province, five on January 23 and four on January 22, bringing the total death toll in the province on account of the coronavirus to 160.
Officials said the big number of patients who have recovered in a week showed that COVID-19 is now on a downward trend after registering a spike during the first three weeks of January in the aftermath of the holiday season.
Dr. Anna de Guzman, provincial health officer, said while many patients recovered last week, residents should not let their guard down especially because there is a new UK COVID -19 variant that has entered the country.
However, she said the new virus strain has not yet been seen in any of the positive cases whose specimens went through RT-Polymerase Chain Reaction tests.
Meanwhile, even Dagupan City registered a big gain when its active COVID-19 cases is down to 116 on January 28 after registering 27 recoveries that day, while it had 193 on January 27, 180 on January 26; 178 on January 25; 210 on January 24; 198 on January 23 and 195 on January 22. (Leonardo Micua)
