Pangasinan Molecular Lab awaits PhilHealth accreditation

THE Pangasinan Molecular and Diagnostic Laboratory (PDML) located at the premises of the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital (PPH) in San Carlos City is still awaiting accreditation from the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) before it can serve members and qualified beneficiaries.

This was the update given by Dr. Anna de Guzman, provincial health Officer, during the physical session of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) on February 1.

De Guzman said the PMDL was issued its license to operate by the Health Facilities and Services Regulatory Bureau of the Department of Health (DOH) last December 2020 but it cannot operate as a COVID-19 SARS-COV-2 testing laboratory until it is accredited by PhilHealth.

Equipped to conduct Reverse Transcriptase-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) test, the laboratory is expected to boost the provincial government’s efforts in its campaign vs. COVID-19 because it will cut the usual 3-days waiting time when specimens of suspected COVID-19 patients are sent to Baguio for processing.

She said the PMDL can process 92 specimens every two hours.

The PMDL will only be the third such facility in Region 1 after the Region 1 Medical Center and the Villaflor Doctors Memorial Hospital, both in Dagupan City. (Leonardo Micua)
