THE Department of Agriculture (DA) thru the Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PHILMECH) turned over P274.6-million worth of agricultural machineries to the Farmers Cooperatives and Associations (FCAs) of the province on February 19 at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center (NRSCC).

Governor Amado I. Espino III who led the turn-over ceremony expressed his gratitude to the national government for the continuous support to the farmers of the province as he urged Pangasinense farmers to make good production through the given machineries.

“Ang isukli po natin sa kanila, ang pinakamagandang naisip ko bilang isang magsasaka rin ay alagaan po natin ang ating lupa, alagaan natin ang ating sarili, alagaan natin ang mga binigay na kagamitan. Pagandahin po natin ang ating ani dahil kung ano po ang pag-asikaso natin sa ating mga lupa iyon po ang pag-asikaso natin sa ating pamilya,” said Gov. Espino.

The said activity forms part of the farm mechanization project under the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF) which aims to raise rice farmers’ productivity, profitability and global competitiveness through the use of appropriate production and postproduction mechanization technologies.

“Ang programa po na rice tarrification law ay ginawa itong tinatawag nating Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund na kung saan ang ating gobyerno ay nag-allocate ng pondo para sa mechanization component na may halagang 5-bilyon, seed production na may 3-bilyon, 1-bilyon sa credit, at 1-bilyon sa extension component, na may kabuuang P10-bilyon taon-taon sa loob ng anim na taon,” said PHILMECH Facility Management and Field Operations Division Chief Joel V. Dator as he also reminded the farmers to give importance to the machineries given by the government that will help them tend their land with ease.

The FCAs of Pangasinan received the following machineries: four-wheel tractor (114 units), hand tractor (115 units), precision seeder (2 units), walk-behind rice transplanter (3 units), riding type rice transplanter (1 units), rice combine harvester (48 units), mobile rice mill (6 units), and mini thresher (6 units).

Provincial Agriculturist Dalisay Moya noted that the farm mechanization is one of the strategies for the agriculture sector to grow: To modernize agriculture kailangan talaga pagbutihin natin itong farm mechanization. Ito rin po ang isang hangad ng provincial government under the leadership of Gov. Espino.

Joining Gov. Espino were: Vice Governor Mark Ronald DG. Lambino, Board Member Liberato Z. Villegas (Sangguniang Panlalawigan Committee Chair on Agriculture), PHILMECH Facility Management and Field Operations Division Chief Joel V. Dator, DA-RFO1 OIC Regional Executive Director Nestor D.
