61 schools in region eyed for ‘F-to-F’ learning pilot
SOME 61 public schools in Region 1 are being eyed to participate in the ‘face-to-face learning ‘ pilot being proposed by the Department of Education.
According to Education Secretary Leonor Briones out of 61,000 schools nationwide, 1,900 schools have been identified in the country as possible subjects for the pilot study for ‘face-to-face learning’, once President Duterte approves the study which is expected once the roll out of vaccines in the country starts.
“So we are preparing so that when the vaccines shall have arrived, then we are ready to implement the program itself,” Briones said as she pointed out that there are 61 schools in Region 1 that are seen ready for the program,” Briones said.
“But we will not jump into it, march and open at once the schools… as we have to be very careful,” she said.
Among the conditions to be required for a school in a town or city to be tapped for the pilot study are: 1) The local governments where the schools are located will approve it. 2) Parents must give their written consent since the program entails safety of their children. 3) The sizes of classrooms must be adequate for required social distancing. 4) Community and school can provide transportation to the learners to ensure safety of learners.
Identified schools that opt for the pilot will have to go through stringent evaluation by the DepEd, she added.
She cited the Constitution which states that DepEd’s accountability is to the learners, to give them the kind of education that will prepare them for the real world or life outside and hopefully for their future.
“Our primary sector which we are mandated to serve specifically are the children and the learners and to afford them quality education,” Briones intoned. (Eva Visperas)
