Mayor Lim enforces stricter implementation of health protocols

AMID the rising COVID-19 cases in Dagupan City, Mayor Brian Lim enforced a stricter implementation of health and safety protocols as he revealed that the number of active cases in Dagupan already climbed to 203, the highest ever registered in the city since the contagion began in March last year.

In Lim’s live post uploaded on Facebook on January 12, he blamed the spike of coronavirus cases to the arrival of many Dagupeños from other provinces to be with their families and relatives.

He shared the findings that most of those infected were members living in the same households or families living in same neighborhood or compounds, or employees of same company.

Among the measures he instituted in a bid to bring down the cases are:

  1. Closure of the pubic markets once a week, every Thursday, for disinfection, until further notice.
  2. Closure of the cockpit arena where aficionados gather and social distancing is not observed.
  3. Restoration of the liquor ban.
  4. No swimming at Tondaligan Beach.
  5. Both the Dagupan City Police and the Public Order and Safety Office are monitoring compliance of health and safety protocols in all markets and private establishments.
  6. Mass gathering for any activity is prohibited.

At the same time, Lim ordered the barangay officials to monitor violations of curfew and health and safety protocols by their constituents.

The mayor asked for the cooperation of residents, saying the city’s economy can be expected to bounce back once the cases of COVID-19 see a downtrend.

He warned, however, that if the cases will continue to rise, Dagupan will lose its opportunity to return to normal times and even risk raising the level of quarantine from the present Modified General Community Quarantine to Extreme Community Quarantine. (Leonardo Micua)
