Dagupan still tops in COVID-19 cases
DAGUPAN is still locked in as the epicenter of the pandemic in Pangasinan after it tallied 95 more new confirmed active cases against only 43 recovered cases based on the monitoring of the Provincial Health Office (PHO) for the period January 8 to 14.
Records showed that as of January 14, Dagupan already registered 230 active COVID-19 cases confined and isolated at the Region 1 Medical Center and at the LGU-owned COVID-19 isolation facilities, or 33% of the total 692 active COVID-19 cases so far registered in the province.
This is considered a big jump from Dagupan’s last tally of 184 active cases on January 7.
Dagupan logged 23 new cases each on January 10 and 13; 20 cases on June14; 12 cases on January 8; 7 cases each on January 9 and 11 and two cases on January 12.
In acknowledging that COVID-19 cases in the city have risen and still continues to rise, Mayor Brian Lim ordered broad measures in a bid to help slow down the contagion, among them, the weekly closure of all public markets to give way for disinfection, ban on swimming at the Tondaligan Beach and temporary closure of the Dagupan Cockpit Arena in Lucao due to alleged disregard of its patrons to social distancing.
Trailing Dagupan in far second is Calasiao with 64 cases, followed by Manaoag (46), Mangaldan (35), Binmaley (32), San Carlos City (32), Sta. Barbara (28), Lingayen (25), Malasiqui (24), Urdaneta City (21), Alaminos City (19), San Fabian (15), Bugallon (12), Asingan (11) and Urbiztondo (8).
The PHO said 41 of the 48 towns and cities of Pangasinan or 41.85 percent remained infected by COVID-19 while seven—Agno, Aguilar, Balungao, Natividad, San Quintin, Sison and Sto. Tomas— do not have a single case. (Leonardo Micua)
