San Carlos City allows tricycle back-riders

THE San Carlos City government has given tricycle operators and drivers the go-signal to accept commuters as back-riders on their tricycles (in addition to one passenger riding inside the sidecar) effective last Monday, Dec. 7, on the advice of the Inter-Agency Task Force for Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) with the easing of the community quarantine restrictions.

However, City Mayor Julier Resuello reminded the tricycle drivers and operators to strictly enforce compliance with the health protocols on their passengers to help prevent the transmission of COVID-19.

Resuello also warned that while tricycle drivers can have one back-rider, the tricycle must have a plastic divider between the driver and the passenger and both must wear face masks and face shields.

“I made it clear that there can only be a maximum of three individuals on the tricycle, one inside the sidecar, one back-rider, and the driver,” he intoned.

He said the same conditions apply to privately-owned tricycles.

Resuello said the move to allow back-riders is in consideration of the need of tricycle drivers to earn their keep like they used to.

Meanwhile, a passenger will be charged minimum of P10 and higher depending on the mutual agreement between the driver and passengers. (Jerick Pasiliao)
