DESPITE MANGATAREM CLASH

DESPITE the incursion of communist terrorist into Mangatarem last week, Pangasinan has not lost its insurgency-free status.

This was clarified by P/Colonel Redrico Maranan, police provincial director, who maintained that the 40 armed men who came from Tarlac and Zambales were driven out by elements of the Armed Forces of the Philippines in a three-day pursuit operation.

Maranan stressed during a recent DWCM interview, that the government did not suffer any casualty while the insurgents were seen to be carrying their dead and wounded in their escape back to Zambales.

He said Mangatarem residents can be rest assured that the AFP has cleared the mountainous parts of insurgent and the 702nd Infantry Regiment already deployed additional troops in the area in addition to the Philippine Army detachment in one barangay.

He said the police station can also be expected to guard against insurgency .

Maranan clarified that under the rules and regulations applied, when a place is declared as insurgency-free it means rebels have lost community support even if occasional incursions and clashes occur. “It means they can no longer exert influence to make people submit to their lawless ideology,” he stressed.

That was what happened in Mangatarem. the AFP was able to detect the incursion of the communiste terrorists with the information from the community, Maranan pointed out. (Leonardo Micua)
