Mangatarem declared cleared of insurgents
JOINT elements of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police have terminated their clearing and pursuit operation against the members of New People’s Army in the mountainous areas of Mangatarem town.
This was officially announced by P/Colonel Redrico Maranan, Pangasinan PNP provincial director, after three days of pursuit operations that followed an armed encounter between the government forces and rebels last Tuesday, November 26, that resulted in the capture of the rebels’ camp in Barangay Lawak Langka.
“The AFP confirmed the area as ‘clear’,’’ said Maranan who also confirmed there were no casualties in the government side.
Despite the encounter, Maranan stressed that the province remains insurgency-free, not because there are no sympathizers or fighters in the area, but because the province is safe from the rebels’ larger influence.
“The NPA still has no influence in the overall economic status and political environment in the province,” he said. (Ahikam Pasion)
