UNDER the direction of P/Colonel Ronald Gayo, police provincial director, the campaign against illegal drugs is a top priority in Pangasinan and warned those involved in trading and use of illegal drugs to cease and desist before the police catch them.

In his first press conference since assuming his new post on December 5, Gayo said the campaign against illegal drugs is aligned with the priorities of the entire PNP as enunciated by Chief PNP General Debold Sinas.

He said he will also hit hard on corruption in the ranks of the PNP as he called on all personnel in Pangasinan to bear in mind of two thing before they will step out of their respective houses – courtesy and discipline.

Policemen, he said, must be courteous and respectful to the public that they seek to serve and protect. “If they are disciplined, they cannot go wrong adding that the internal office of the PNP will be ready to file cases against policemen who cross the bounds of decency,” he intoned.

His command will zero in on anti-criminality and for starters, he will inquire into the status of all Special Investigation Task Groups created in the past to determine the progress in their investigation and what need more to be done to finally arrest the perpetrators and the masterminds.

The campaign against illegal gambling is also a priority of the new acting provincial director.

But foremost, the police will play a very important role in enforcing the health and safety protocols promulgated by the provincial Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Infectious Disease (IATF) headed by Governor Amado Espino III.

He has so far strengthened the border control points and assigned a police lieutenant to supervise men enforcing regulations 24/7 to ensure that no Locally Stranded Individuals without corresponding travel permits and health certificates are allowed entry into Pangasinan.

So far, border police in two checkpoints in Rosales town succeeded in intercepting two vans loaded with several LSIs that presented fake travel documents and spurious medical certificates.

Meanwhile, the police will strictly enforce the ban on Christmas parties and large gatherings and will instruct police stations to order their men to strictly enforce the wearing of masks and face shields and observance of social and physical distancing.

He reported that not a single policeman is in isolation and quarantine for COVID-19 symptoms. (Leonardo Micua)
