Region 1- 70%; Pangasinan, 84%

COVID-19 RECOVERY RATE

THE recovery rate for patients afflicted with COVID-19 in Region is at a high of 70 percent while the mortality rate is at three percent, according to a doctor at the Department of Health’s Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD) in the area.

In Pangasinan, the experience is even better: it is experiencing an unprecedented 81.34% rate.

Dr. Rheuel Bobis, COVID-19 focal person and information officer at the DOH-CHD Region 1 told the KBP virtual forum that as of Nov. 4, the region is experiencing high recovery rate.

Dr. Anna de Guzman, provincial health officer, told The PUNCH that Pangasinan’s 84.3% recovery rate for COVID-19 confirmed patients is based on a monitoring report of the Provincial Health Office as of Nov. 5  at 6:00 p.m.

She cited data that showed that the total confirmed cases have reached 1,706 while 1,439 have recovered or 84.3 % recovery rate. 71 have died while there are still 59 active cases.

Meanwhile, Bobis said recovered patients in Region 1 have reached 1,949 while active cases are 448 and those who died numbered 98.

He pointed out that the high recovery rate can be attributed to the fact that most cases are asymptomatic and mild so most can recover on their own even if there is no specialized treatment in the hospital.

“They only needed supportive treatment and the patients must be isolated to prevent the spread of COVID-19,” he added.

On the other hand, he attributes recovery of severe and critical cases to the COVID-19 referral hospitals for taking good care of the patients using their guidelines.

There are four accredited testing laboratories in Region 1, namely, Region 1 Medical Center and the Dagupan Doctors Villaflor Memorial Hospital both in Dagupan City, Mariano Marcos Hospital, and Medical Center in Ilocos Norte, and Ilocos Training Regional Medical Center in La Union.

The molecular laboratory at the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital in San Carlos City is awaiting accreditation from the DOH central office and Research Institute for Tropical Medicine. (PhilStar Wire Service/ECV)
