NOT RELAXING BUT ADJUSTING IN CHECKPOINTS

THE Pangasinan Police already arrested 88,662 persons that violated health and safety protocols since the COVID-19 pandemic started in mid-March this year.

This was revealed by P/Colonel Redrico Maranan, police provincial director, during the Question Hour of the virtual session of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan last week, and said that the apprehensions resulted in payment of P8,6000 fines that all accrued to the government.

Maranan reported the data that maintenance of border control checkpoints is not “relaxed”  but simply “adjusting” to situation based on guidelines issued by the national IATF (Inter-Agency Task Force on the Emerging Infectious Diseases) not only as a measure to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) but to help restore normal economic activities in the province.

“The progression based on the issuances of the national IATF on businesses are now being allowed to operate, or more people are now being allowed to go out to do their business, so the number of people we are allowing to enter (the province) is increasing,” P/Col. Maranan told board members.

“On our perspective… we are adjusting,” he stressed.

He said the violations ranged from non-wearing of face masks and face shields, non-observance of social distancing, violation of curfew hours, gambling and others.

Maranan revealed that among those arrested were drivers of car rentals who were caught transporting persons using falsified documents that also resulted in the impoundment of the vehicles.

Maranan told the SP that the PNP still maintains 18 border control points and 168 quarantine control points and denied that restrictions have already been relaxed in these control points.

He said the border control point of the police at TPLEx in Rosales was removed at the request of the TPLEX management and the police recently installed 58 action cameras in various quarantine control checkpoints and five cameras in main border control checkpoints.

Meanwhile, Maranan confirmed only two police personnel are   in isolation for COVID-19 at its 33-bed isolation facility. (Leonardo Micua/Philstar News Service/ECV)
