Tornado victim receives new ‘bahay kubo’
AN indigent family in Barangay Manambong Parte in Bayambang town whose home was destroyed by the recent tornado received a new bahay kubo (nipa hut) from a group of concerned citizens.
The beneficiary was identified by the Bayambang Municipal Association of NGOs (MANGO) Inc. in coordination with the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) and to the barangay council as the “neediest of them all”.
The group raised funds for its project Bahay ni Juan (House of Juan) to provide shelter for indigent families here.
The first recipient-family, whose new house was turned over on Sunday, was a victim of a tornado that destroyed their bahay kubo. While the beneficiary was not identified in the town’s official Facebook page, Balon Bayambang, photos of the project and covered faces of the recipient-family members were posted online.
MANGO founder and president Vilma Dalope said on Oct. 16 and 17, their members helped in constructing the nipa hut using funds they raised from various individuals.
Among those who built the nipa hut were Xtreme Riders Club Pangasinan Inc. president Jonathan De Vera, Reaction 166 Animal Kingdom president Alvin Dacayana and Samahang Ilocano Bayambang chapter president Richmond Paningbatan.
Dalope said their group is also set to provide a livelihood package for the chosen beneficiary.
The Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office delivered relief goods and financial assistance to the victims of the recent tornado.
