MORE local farmers are seen delivering and selling their palay to the NFA Western Pangasinan branch that continues to buy at P19.

Assistant Provincial Manager Chona Maramba, said NFA is open even during weekends to serve the farmers.

As of October 7, NFA Western Pangasinan has bought 82,000 bags of palay from 10 farmers cooperatives.

The buying spree was recently boosted by the Department of Agriculture, through the National Food Authority (NFA) by allotting P10-billion to prop up the buying of palay from farmers’ groups and associations or its procurement operations.

During the Laging Handa Network Briefing, Agriculture Secretary William Dar said it is on the government’s measures to help ease the low buying price for palay.

He said while there are provinces where palay prices leveled at P12-P13, prices in top rice-producing provinces are still pegged at P18-P19.

“We have tasked NFA to follow the strategy of buy, mill and sell then roll over,” Sec. Dar said.

Dar also asked multi-national companies, the top 200 companies in the Philippines, to buy rice from our farmers cooperatives and associations. (PIA-Pangasinan/ VHS)
