Pangasinan records highest single-day spike on Sep 15
THE provincial government, including Dagupan City, recorded its highest spike in COVID-19 cases on September 15.
Dr. Anna de Guzman, provincial health officer, said the province registered 49 new cases, 25 of which were recorded in Dagupan City (13) and Bayambang (12).
She said it was the highest number of fresh cases recorded in one day in Pangasinan since March.
She pointed out in her DWCM Aksyon Radyo interview that most of the fresh cases that day had close contacts with previously recorded patients.
Most of Bayambang’s 12 new cases had direct contacts with the market vendor who died on August 27 while majority of Dagupan’s fresh cases work at the Magsaysay Fish Market.
Earlier, City Mayor Brian Lim ordered the mandatory rapid testing of all vendors at the fish market and those who tested positive were subjected to the RT-PCR test for confirmation.
As of September 15, the province reported 582 confirmed COVID-19 cases – 402 of which have recovered, 158 active cases while 22 died.
The new cases were found in Asingan (Student), Bayambang (12 APOR/meat vendor’s close contacts), Binalonan (2 OFWs), Binmaley (6 APOR, 1 frontline Worker), Bolinao (2 LSI), Bugallon (1 LSI), Calasiao (1 traced contact), Labrador (Frontline worker), Lingayen (1 fish vendor), Malasiqui (1 student), Mapandan (1 OFW), Pozorrubio (1 OFW), Rosales (1 LSI), San Carlos City (2 frontline Workers), San Nicolas (1 LSI), Urdaneta City (1 OFW) and Dagupan City (3-APOR, 8 traced contacts, 2 frontline workers).
With the alarming rate of increase, De Guzman said it has become imperative to recommend the lockdown of specific areas where cases are concentrated for contact-tracing and disinfection of areas as she advised the opening of additional isolation facilities to cater to expected new cases.
The PHO hopes its molecular laboratory will be open next month to hasten release of test results. (Ahikam Pasion)
