‘No face mask, shield’ punishable by fines, jail terms
PUBLIC commuters, drivers, and employees of both private and public offices in Pangasinan are now required to wear face shields over their face masks.
This is a mandatory requirement of the Provincial Ordinance 242-2020 approved last week by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan for the duration of the COVID -19 health crisis.
The ordinance states, “The mandatory wearing of face shield is on top of other health protocols imposed by national and local authorities, such as the wearing of face mask and observance of physical distancing.”
“This ordinance is a proactive approach; it has practical benefits for our constituents and for us also to lessen the fear of everyone here in Pangasinan of being contaminated with COVID-19,” Board member Margielou Humilde-Versoza, who authored the ordinance, said.
The ordinance described ‘face shield’ as “a clear plastic shield covering the entire front of face which can serve as a protection or barrier against possible infection from COVID-19.”
The ordinance provided penalties for violations.
First offender shall be fined P1,000 and/or shall attend to awareness campaigns on COVID-19 for at least three hours as conducted by barangays and other local government offices.
Second offender shall be fined P2,500 or an imprisonment of not more than 30 days or both at the discretion of the courts.
Third and subsequent offenders shall be fined P5,000 or an imprisonment of not more than six months or both at the discretion of the courts.
The Philippine National Police in coordination with barangay officials and other force multipliers are mandated to enforce the ordinance. (PIO/SMDG)
