City bans delivery of bangus, fish from other provinces

THE Dagupan City government will suspend deliveries of bangus and fish products sourced from outside Pangasinan to the city effective Sep. 28 until Oct. 5.
The suspension was ordered by City Mayor Brian Lim with the issuance of Executive Order No. 49 last Sep. 22 in a bid to arrest the rising cases of COVID-19 among market vendors.
Lim ‘s order was in response to the demands of the Dagupan Fish Consignacion and Ice Dealers’ Association, who pointed to the daily and unregulated entry of the delivery vans to the city, suspected to be the main source and cause of the rising cases of infection among market vendors.
The unregulated entry and exit of suspected asymptomatic carriers among suppliers from Zambales, Laguna, Bulacan, Pampanga, and Metro Manila is believed to be cause of the contagion in the city’s public markets.
In the recent weeks, the city has recorded a sudden spike in COVID-19 cases – most of which are workers at the said wet market.
The city government warned of severe consequences to the suppliers if they violate the order.
The city’s public information office said all bangus and fish products delivered by the suppliers from outside Pangasinan during the period will be confiscated.
At the same time, the suppliers will lose their accreditation and authorization to supply fish in the city, while the local consignacion and local fish dealers found to conspire with the illegal entry will be summarily closed and will be prevented to operate in any of the city’s markets.
