21 stalls in Lingayen market closed after 10 months
NON-PAYMENT OF RENTALS
THE Lingayen Treasury Office ordered the closure of 21 stalls inside the town public market for their failure to pay their rentals despite months of extension of payment of their dues.
Although there’s pandemic, the Municipal Treasury Office (MTO) said their repeated failure to pay their monthly rental for 10 months is a violation of the existing Omnibus Market Code and Revenue Code of the town.
The MTO said repeated notices were sent to the delinquent tenants but they did not respond that left the municipal government to issue notices of temporary closure.
Elements of the Municipal Treasury Office with the market supervisor, Municipal Legal Office and the police jointly implemented the closure order.
Other stall owners readily complied and paid their overdue payment that led to the initial collection of P100,000.
Mayor Leopoldo Bataoil appealed to other delinquent stall owners to pay their overdue rental in order that the local government can deliver more basic services to residents. (PhilStar Wire Service/ECV)
