TESDA launches training programs for displaced OFWs
THE Technical Education Skills Training and Development Administration (TESDA) recently launched training for new job opportunities during the Business and Opportunities Summit held at Purok Marcela in Lingayen town.
A memorandum of agreement was signed by TESDA Deputy Director General Aniceto ‘John’ Bertis with the provincial government to provide employment to displaced workers including repatriated OFWs affected by the global pandemic.
According to the TESDA Provincial Office, the more than one thousand repatriated OFWs from Pangasinan who lost their jobs due to the pandemic can avail of jobs opened by TESDA such as contact tracer and contact tracer trainor.
Bertis, in a PUNCH interview, said the Department of Health (DOH), DILG, DOLE and TESDA need 100,000 contact tracers to serve the ratio 1:800.
Apart from being a contact tracer/trainor, TESDA also provides training for making facemasks due to its high demand.
In addition, TESDA’s recently launched 71 online training programs in the Oplan Abot Lahat project, in addition to the department’s 200 existing skills training programs for construction, health and online selling that are profitable at present.
Bertis said TESDA is preparing displaced OFWs particularly caregivers for possible employment in Taiwan, Japan, Australia and Canada.
TESDA has also assigned OFWs Malasakit Desk in every town to assist OFWs with their concerns. (Nora Dominguez)
