COVID-19 recoveries exceed new confirmed cases

RECORDS of the Pangasinan Health Office (PHO) are beginning to show that efforts of the provincial government to flatten the curve are paying off.

For the period August 1 to 6 alone, the number of COVID-19 patients that recovered outnumbered confirmed cases: 38 vs. 22

The new statistics effectively raised the total number of recovered patients to 188 and the number of confined patients at 54.

The biggest surge of recoveries was registered on August 5 when 20 patients from across the province were discharged from their confinement and isolation in different hospitals and facilities and considered as the biggest recoveries of COVID-19 patients in a single day in Pangasinan since the campaign started last March 14, said Provincial Information Officer Orpheus Velasco.

Only 12 patients had died, the latest fatalities were from Labrador, Rosales and Malasiqui. The latest was an 81-year-old female from Malasiqui.

Dr. Anna de Guzman, provincial health officer, earlier said the coronavirus has already become self-limiting and if a patient is asymptomatic and has a strong immune system, he has a very good chance of recovering from the disease just after a few days of rest.

Dr. De Guzman attributed high rate of recovery and low death toll in Pangasinan partly to the best practices in the treatment and management of COVID-19 cases so far developed by local doctors, nurses and other health professionals.

The 20 that recovered on August 5 were from Lingayen (7), Malasiqui (3), San Carlos City (2) , Binmanley (2), Umingan (1), Sta. Barbara (1), Labrador (1), Bautista (1), Bugallon (1) and Dagupan City (1) .

All were all admitted in hospitals and different isolation facilities on July 24 although were asymptomatic.

Five COVID-19 patients from Malasiqui, including a 28-year-old male from Basista, recovered a day earlier on August 4, according to the PHO.

There were four new confirmed cases as of August 5, a 50-year-old male from Manaoag, a 37-year-old female from Pozorrubio, a 32-year-old male from Urdaneta City, and a 52-year-old male from Basista.

Those who recovered on August 6 are one each from Dagupan City, Villasis, Alcala and Asingan.

Records showed the biggest surge of newly confirmed cases occurred on August 2 when 12 COVID-19 patients were admitted in different hospitals and government isolation centers.

On August 1, new confirmed cases were a 44-year old male from Umingan, and a 77-year-old male from Rosales. But on the same day, six COVID-19 patients had recovered. (Leonardo Micua)
