Capitol returns 27 students in Cavite to hometowns

TWENTY-seven senior high graduates from St. Mary of Banneux (The Sisters of Mary) in Silang, Cavite who were stranded in the school when enhanced community quarantine was declared mid-March. were finally reunited with their families in Pangasinan on August 23

A team from the Provincial Disaster and Risk Reduction Office (PDRRMO) fetched the 21 students deemed as locally stranded individuals (LSIs) from the school and brought them  safely to their respective homes on board the provincial government’s shuttle buses.

The 27 students, composed of 14 males and 13 females from the Boys Town and Girls Town of the school, said they were not allowed to go home to Pangasinan since the start of the COVID-19 lockdown in March.  Still some were reportedly away from their home months before the declared quarantine periods.

Masaya po ako at nagpapasalamat kay Governor dahil sa tulong na ginawa niya para makauwi na po kami sa aming pamilya,” said 17-year old Melaiza De Vera who hails from the town of Mangaldan. She had not seen her family since her Christmas break

Meanwhile, Sr. Desiree, the contact person of Team Pangasinan, explained that while the students were not allowed to go home since the start of the lockdown in March, parents or guardians of the students were allowed to connect with their sons and daughters via scheduled phone calls using the institution’s communication lines.

She said they were prevented to go out of the school premises to safeguard their health and ensure their safety.
