THE Agno municipal government has reopened its eight barangays to hog trading, allowing sale, slaughter, and transport of pork products while awaiting confirmatory test results.

Hog trading in the eight barangays (Poblacion East, Poblacion west, Cayungnan, Bangan-Oda, Patar, Viga, Macaboboni, and Boboy) was suspended last week after some hogs showed symptoms of infection of African Swine Fever (ASF).

Through Memorandum No. 073-2020, signed by Mayor Gualberto Sison, the ban was lifted in only the eight barangays, and not the rest of the town.

“’The barangays that are not stated above shall still STRICTLY impose Memorandum 072-2020, “temporary ban on transporting, selling and slaughtering of swine’ to contain possible spread of ASF or other hog infectious diseases”, said Sison in his issued memorandum.

He said since he already identified possible hotspots for ASF in the town, the lifting of the suspension of transporting, selling, and slaughtering of swine from the eight barangays was in order.

Last week, all the hogs in the eight barangays were immediately culled, and prohibited the entry and exit of pork and other frozen goods into and from the barangays.

Meanwhile, Agno residents and barangay officials have been advised to closely monitor their areas for any hogs possibly infected with ASF. (Ahikam Pasion/PhilStar Wire Service/ECV)
