THE Pangasinan Police Provincial Office at Camp Antonio Sison was on lockdown starting July 17 for disinfection after 15 policemen tested positive in their Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction test for COVID-19.

P/Colonel Redrico Maranan, police provincial director, said all the 15 policemen, except one who was suffering from a slight cold, are asymptomatic and are presently quarantined under the supervision of the PNP Health Service in different isolation facilities.

Meanwhile, Maranan directed the implementation of the work from home and 50/50 work schemes to enable all PNP personnel to rest in order to boost their immune system.

Maranan confirmed that the 15 infected policemen caught the virus due to their prolonged exposure in the field manning the province’s more than 200 checkpoints and border control points, implementing guidelines set by the Inter-Agency Task Force in the Management of Infectious Diseases (IATF).

The RT-PCR tests given to the policemen were parts of the continuous targeted mass testing on front liners conducted by the Provincial Health Office headed by Dr. Anna de Guzman, provincial health officer.

The PPPO headquarters was locked down for the first time when policemen from Binmaley, Sual, Dagupan City and San Carlos City and five other towns were found to be COVID-19 positive in earlier RT-PCR targeted mass testing conducted by the PPPO.

Maranan said PPPO established its own quarantine and isolation facilities in anticipation of possible infection due to their daily exposure in the field.  (Leonardo Micua)
