10 charged for violating cockfighting law

SAN MANUEL ONLINE COCKFIGHTING RAID

A CASE of violation the Presidential Decree No.449 or better known as Cockfigthing Law of 1974 as amended by PD 1602 was filed against ten people caught conducting illegal online cockfight gambling in the house of an official in Barangay Gueset Sur in San Manuel town, Pangasinan.

Initially, the police charged the suspects for violation of Presidential Decree 1602 as amended by Republic Act 9287 (Anti-illegal Gambling) but this was subsequently amended by the provincial prosecutors.

Police Provincial Director, P/Colonel Redrico Maranan, identified the arrested suspects as Edmund Cayabyab, Prince Charles Jimenez, Ojano Ollero, Vhincent Ebano, Kevin Natividad, Joel Folvos, Ric Dela Cruz, Aicon Palencia, Eduardo Lumague and Salvador Balberan Sr., all residents of Barangay Gueset Sur who were caught operating the online cockfighting.

The case with docket number NPS-I-01E-INQ-20H-003327 was initially filed by Ephraim Tomboc senior assistant provincial prosecutor.

The suspects were temporarily released after they posted P5,000 bail each.

It will be recalled that San Manuel Police Station as the lead unit, 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company and Provincial Intelligence Unit of the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office conducted an anti-illegal gambling operation in Sitio Casantiagoan, Barangay Gueset Sur in San Manuel town that resulted in the arrest of the suspects.

Fifty fowls, ten dead roosters, 4 electronic weighing scales, a video camera, a video monitor, a computer, a keyboard, two headsets and eighteen (18) rooster cage were recovered and seized from the suspects.

After the authorities raided the online cockpit, Provincial Board Member Salvador Perez Jr,; Honey Boy Perez y Sison, a businessman; Mayor Marco Perez and former Vice Mayor Salvador Perez Sr, rushed to the San Manuel Police Station and confronted P/Chief Major Benjamin Zarate about the raid and the arrests.

Consequently, a case against Board Member Perez is being prepared by the Pangasinan Police for allegedly harassing Police Chief Zarate, shouting invectives and hurling expletives at the latter inside the police station.

Meanwhile, the police are also looking into the involvement of Perez in the illegal online gambling.
