THE request of transport leaders for additional 75 jeepneys to ply city routes in Dagupan was endorsed partially by Mayor Brian Lim in his letter to Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board Regional Director Nasrudin Talipasan dated July 22, 2020.

This was confirmed by Bernard Tuliao, president of the Alliance of United Transport Organization Provincewide (AUTOpro), who requested the mayor for his endorsement two weeks ago.

However, instead of endorsing 75 more jeepneys, Lim endorsed 50% of the request: only five for Bonuan Gueset instead of 10, and 15 jeepneys each for Bonuan Boquig and Bonuan Binloc; five more for the Lucao-CSI route instead of 10; and five more for the Dagupan Downtown Loop, instead of 10; Salisay, Tambac, Bolosan Route, 10 (new) and the Dagupan- Calasiao route, five, instead of 10.

Lim also approved Tuliao’s request for all jeepneys coming from the Bonuan area to pass through downtown Dagupan so passengers no longer need take a second ride to reach their destination and cut their travel expenses.

Meanwhile, Tuliao said he will still ask for more jeepneys on the road next week because many jeepney drivers and operators are still without any means to support themselves and their families ever since the community quarantine started March 15 this year.

In the province, Tuliao said, LTFRB only gave 550 jeepneys (only 16 percent) special permits to operate out of the 3,525 jeepneys with franchises to operate in the province to serve the transport needs of residents of 48 towns and cities in Pangasinan.

He said many members of the transport sectors and their families will be happy if the LTFRB will grant special permits to at least 50 percent of their number at least by next week.

At the same time, he said jeepneys from outside Dagupan with permits from the LTFRB but without permits from Gov. Amado Espino III will not be allowed to enter the city. (Leonardo Micua)
