Dagupan City seeks upgrade of police station

THE Dagupan Sangguniang Bayan again seeks to upgrade its status from city police station into a city police office.

In a resolution filed last Tuesday, City Councilor Celia Lim has revived a 20-year-old appeal to upgrade the city police station status.

As a city police office, the police force will increase and allow for the ideal police ratio 1:5.

“Our current maximum police personnel is only 124, if request is granted the number will grow to 600”, said P/Lt Colonel Abubakar Mangelen Jr., Dagupan City chief of police.

He said it will allow the city police to create four police stations, a tourist police station in the Bonuan area, and more mobile police forces.

Out of the five independent component cities (ICC) in the Philippines, only Dagupan City has not upgraded its status to city police office status.

Currently, city police has police community precincts in six barangays: Lucao, Mayombo, Bonuan Gueset, Barangay 2, Pantal, and Bolosan – and currently led by a Lieutenant Colonel.

Once upgraded, the city police force will be headed by a Police Colonel.  (Ahikam Pasion)
