Crime rate in Pangasinan down by 37.43%
THE Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) recorded lower cases of crimes and vehicular accidents this year compared to same period last year.
This was reported by PPPO Director Redrico Maranan to the provincial board on July 6 during the latter’s ‘Question Hour’.
PPPO records showed 4,008 criminal cases from January 1 to June 30 this year, compared to last year’s 6,406, or 37.43% lower.
On the other hand, the vehicular traffic incidence report showed 1,136 incidents in 2020, from 3,586 in 2019, or a 68.32% decrease.
Maranan said the police checkpoints will continue to be strict in implementing rules set by the Inter-Agency Task Force in all borders of the province, specifically watching out for returning Pangasinenses from other COVID-19 infected areas.
He said the presentation of quarantine certificate, medical certificate and travel authority from residents will continue to be strictly enforced even as he clarified that all PNP stations have established one-stop shop for the list of requirements.
He explained that exclusive motorcycle lane was added to prevent accidents and arguments because of the long queues of vehicles and motorcycles approaching the checkpoint and to facilitate the anti-crime strategy involving motorcycles.
Maranan said there is no plan to lift the 8PM-5AM curfew citing it as one of the factors for the lower crime rate in the province and stress that the intensified drug-clearing operations by PNP Pangasinan continues. (PIO/SMDG)
