PHO backs Pangasinan’s exclusion as ‘low-risk’
GOVERNOR Amado Espino III did right in recommending that Pangasinan be removed as a ‘low-risk area’ and instead be classified as Modified General Community Quarantine.
This was the reaction of Provincial Health Officer Ana de Guzman to the governor’s request to the Inter Agency Task Force that in turn quickly agreed to.
De Guzman said the ‘no-quarantine’ reclassification was announced three days before the scheduled lifting of the quarantine and it didn’t leave the provincial government enough time to prepare the sudden lifting.
According to the PHO chief, while Governor Espino was happy about the observation of the IATF that Pangasinaan was ready for a ‘no-quarantine’ classification, but he knew that the sudden lifting of quarantine would be risky for the province and therefore did not agree to be included in the ‘low-risk’ category.
She said the number of patients under investigation (PUI) already rose to 398 and 80 died and only 273 have survived.
She pointed out that out of the 98,847 persons monitored, 65% or 96,526 completed the quarantine, only 1,892 or 1.91%, remain under 14 day-quarantine 429 (0.43%) had incomplete quarantine.
As of May 14, De Guzman said out of 40 confirmed cases of COVID-19 infection, 27 were cured, four are still confined and nine have died.
The recent Asingan case, she said, was a result of the mass testing conducted on 1,000 persons that included persons under investigation and under monitoring. (Nora Dominguez)
